1. Patratu Valley (40 km)
The iconic winding-road viewpoint and the dam-side ghats make this Ranchi's most famous shoot location. Golden hour here is magical — reach by 4 PM for the best light.
2. Rock Garden & Kanke Dam
Right inside the city — sculpted rocks, lake views and sunset points. Perfect for a quick half-day shoot on a budget.
3. Dassam Falls (40 km)
A dramatic 144-ft waterfall on the Kanchi river. Best from October to February when the flow is strong but safe to approach.
4. Hundru Falls (45 km)
Jharkhand's most spectacular waterfall at 320 ft. The rocky terrain gives bold, cinematic frames — carry comfortable footwear for the steps.
5. Jonha Falls (40 km)
Quieter than Dassam and Hundru, with a beautiful stepped approach — great for couples who want privacy during the shoot.
6. Tagore Hill
Heritage stone structures and a panoramic city view — lovely for sunrise shoots and traditional-outfit frames.
7. Nakshatra Van
A landscaped garden opposite Raj Bhavan with fountains and flower beds — easy, comfortable and great for family-approved classic shots.
8. Ranchi Lake (Bada Talab)
Boats, water reflections and the Swami Vivekananda statue backdrop — best in early morning light.
9. Getalsud Dam (35 km)
Wide open water and big-sky sunsets — a favourite for drone shots and silhouette frames.
10. Netarhat (150 km) — the bonus trip
The 'Queen of Chotanagpur'. If you can make it an overnight trip, the sunrise and sunset points here rival any hill station shoot in India.
Best Season for Pre-Wedding Shoots in Ranchi
October to February is ideal — waterfalls are full, skies are clear and outdoor shoots are comfortable all day. Monsoon (July-September) gives lush green frames but plan indoor backups. Avoid peak summer afternoons.
Practical Tips Before You Shoot
- ✓ Permits: some locations charge small entry/camera fees — your photographer or planner should arrange these in advance
- ✓ Timing: golden hour (first and last 90 minutes of daylight) gives the best frames at every location on this list
- ✓ Outfits: plan 2-3 changes and pick locations that offer changing access — or shoot city locations and valley locations on separate days
- ✓ Safety: at waterfalls, stay on marked paths — especially just after monsoon

A Sample 2-Day Shoot Plan
Day 1 — City Day (Half Day)
Morning at Tagore Hill for sunrise heritage frames, then Nakshatra Van for garden shots, ending at Ranchi Lake before noon. Two outfit changes, minimal travel, done by lunch.
Day 2 — Valley & Falls Day (Full Day)
Early start to Dassam or Hundru Falls for morning light, lunch en route, then Patratu Valley from 3 PM — the viewpoint first, then the dam ghats for the golden-hour finale. Three outfits, one big cinematic day.
The Overnight Upgrade
Add Netarhat with a one-night stay for sunrise-point and pine-forest frames no one else in your circle will have. Best combined with an anniversary or post-engagement trip.

Small props travel well: a picnic setup, fairy-light jar frames for dusk, sunglasses and hats for candids. Skip heavy props at waterfall locations — carrying them down the steps is misery.
